Grade 3D- Ms. Rachel- We read a non-fiction book called "Worms."  Partners read facts about worms and practiced reading important information by highlighting it.  We followed a how to recipe for making playdough together.  Students made their own playdough worms and let them dry out.

Project type:

The 1st and 2nd grades students at Beau Soleil are helping the environment by reusing used fruit and pudding containers. Cleaned containers are great to pour paint into it when students are having Arts lessons. A little work to clean them up, but a big help for our planet. Thumbs up for Beau Soleil school !

After many year of making jokes about saving forests, Mr. Forest, the math teacher, can now say "it's mission accomplished". Beau Soleil students are using recycling bins in every classroom and even in the cafeteria where hundreds of juice boxes and milk containers are now on their way to the recycling facilities every week. Keep up the good work Beau Soleil !

We have been collecting all juice boxes, water bottles and other recyclables to be taken back to the depot for recycling.  We have also now signed up for a recycling program which encourages all students to recycle with a points system.

We have been teaching students about growing their own food from seeds in our very own vegetable garden, using compostable materials that students collect from classrooms and staffrooms.It was fun for the kids to see a pumpkin grow all by itself from last years compost pile!

We have been composting all compostable materials from ALL Classrooms and from the Staffroom for several years.  This material is put into a compost pile that is then used to fertilize our school vegetable garden!

We had a volunteer from Trout Unlimited Canada come to our school and give three kindergarten classes, two grade one classes and one grade three class a lecture one the effects of pollution and garbage in our fresh water ways.The kindergarten and grade 3 classes then took an afternoon and stenciled yellow fish and WATER ONLY designs on the storm drains around our school.
