Beau Soleil students are involved in rescuing our planet. They have started a new project: recycling old pens and markers. Every classroom has a green container to collect used pens. Students can bring used pens from home as well as the ones used in school. Good work Beau Soleil students!!!

The grade 11th and 12th students of école secondaire collège Mathieu went planting 28 oak trees with Home Building and Tree Canada in our town last September 25th, for the National Tree Day celebration. To spread the word about the new school Environmental Group we used newspapers instead of printing on paper from the computer. This was eye catching and got the word out there about joining the group to help the school reach our 100 project goal! We reduced, reused and recycled in project 1! We raised coho in a tank in school, and learned more about the life cycle of salmon, ecosystems, the importance of healthy habitats, how humans can hurt or help salmon habitat, and local traditional preparation and uses of salmon.We released our fry during a field trip hosted by the Lillooet Naturalist Society. The Grade 3/4 class used our old raised beds to plant beans and peas. The peas provided a bumper harvest on the last day of school. We learned that beans really can't take any cold and should have been planted later. Students also learned that we should weed more regularly. Sk'il' Mtn Community School - Shalalth
