Our school submitted two entries to the BC Green Games contest. One was highlighting all of the environmental initiatives we have done for the SEEDS GREEN Schools program, and another focused on the Garden Growing program we have in place.

The theme "Kindness is Caring for the World Around You" was put on display in the library. It featured books about animals, the earth, the environment and how we can show kindness (the school's theme for this month) to care for the Earth. Bouchie Lake Elem. - Quesnel

Kindergarden to grade 2 students at Beau Soleil turned Valentine's day into an environmentaly friendly piece of art. They used empty toilet paper rolls and shaped them into hearts to make leaves for a special tree. They used the drawing of their hand and forearm to make the tree and than added leaves made of hearts. A very special gift for their parents and the environment!! Beau Soleil - Gravelbourg

Students in two of our classes are raising Salmon from eggs. They are watching and recording growth and learning about the life cycle of salmon. Bouchie Lake Elementary - Quesnel

All students and staff were encouraged to participate in National Sweater Day. This is a day where we turn down the thermostat and put on a sweater instead to show how easy it is to conserve energy. In celebration of the 2014 Winter Olympics, we encouraged everyone to wear sweaters or hoodies with "Canada" on them! Bouchie Lake Elementary - Quesnel

Students used an empty container that once had a BBQ chicken, to create evaporation in the classroom. This project helps them to understand the three states of water during their Science class. Students were amazed to see drops of water forming at the top of the container. Beau Soleil - Gravelbourg

The Green Schools Team is holding a contest to see which classroom produces the least waste in two weeks. They made trophies out of recycled items such as lunchable containers, fruit cups, pudding containers, etc to represent a gold. silver, and bronze trophy. The winning classrooms will be presented with the trophies in two weeks! Evergreen - Edson

Students in grades 4 and 5 are learning the elements of paragraph writing (main idea and details) by writing about their experience picking up garbage and by writing about the ways we recycle here at school. SMCS - Shalalth

One student has used styrofoam insulation to build an igloo. The insulation was destined for the dump, so the student's project has kept it out of the landfill. The project has helped students learn about Inuit culture and igloo construction. Also, the student has learned some beginning carving skills. SMCS - Shalalth
