The Nature Kids Club have written Letters to the Mayor of Calgary giving him some of our suggestions and asking him what can be done to help our environment.
We have “No waste Wednesdays” at our school. The Nature Kids Club would like to move to litter-less lunches by the end of the year! Litter-less Lunches are when we do not leave any waste at school. Everyone is encouraged to bring re-usable containers for all of their foods.
The Nature Kids Club collects used or dead batteries (9V, AAA, B, AA, D, C and cell batteries) to recycle for the metal. The acid in the batteries is also drained and therefore bypassing the landfill and not leaching into our water systems.
The Nature Kids Club recycles plastics, metals and glass. We asked the Staffroom to join in our efforts. A staff member volunteers to recycle this at their home blue bin.
