All GREEN Schools projects

Students from école Beau Soleil built a Christmas village made from recycled materials. The activity was a success for its first edition, and students are already talking about next year project. The parents were able to see their kid masterpiece at the Christmas concert. Well done Beau Soleil !

Students from école Beau Soleil have choosen to do it again this year. They are recycling their little juice box in order to have money for their outdoor activities. Another way to have less garbage and a better environment.

They did it again ! 13 students from grade 11/12, with the helped Home Harward and Tree Canada, planted trees on the north part of the city. Those trees will stop the wind when they grow up. A good gesture for our community.

Our Green Club has 32 passionate grade 3's and 4's engaged in greening our school. This year long club meets every Wednesday to learn about environmental issues as well as work on projects. Every Monday & Thursday at lunch a group of 8 green club members collect the recycling throughout our school.

For several years, we have collected all of the Grade 3 POD bottles and cans and have taken them to the depot. All money is donated to AIWC for the rescue, rehabilitation and release of Alberta Wildlife.

Each year the children from The Chartwell House create art works to sell in the town square. We ask for families involvement to bring in recycled items to help us create what we sell. For example the toddler classrooms create fabric bowls from recycled fabric, and make wind chimes from recycled tin cans. The preschool classrooms collect glass jars with lids and decorate them. We are working with our preschoolers, toddlers, and infants as they learn to take care of their home -- Earth! We have bins that even our littlest help to scrape their food into for compost, as well as recycling bins for paper scraps etc. Every little step makes a difference :)

Today we learned about the benefits of even the smallest plant and discussed how plants help our community. We then walked around our neighborhood and parks, taking notice of all the green around us. We discussed which plants were decoration, edible, wild, etc.

It's getting real hot here in Sokcho, so the class came up with a great way to reuse our used class handouts: FANS! We also had a great class discussion about the energy we are conserving by not throwing out the handouts.
