In September our grade 4/5 class adopted a Map Turtle hatchling, who was only a couple weeks old. A'nowara, our baby turtles name, was the size of a dollar when we first got him, but he has now grown to be the size of a human hand!
Strawberries! Over the winter months in Sokcho, strawberries are a common, delicious fruit that we can enjoy on the cold winter months. The strawberries are grown in green houses and are very large and delicious.
Three classes of students participated in the "Daffodil is a Promise", BC Min of Agriculture program. Each student helped to plant one or more daffodils around the school and in the courtyard. We learned about the daffodil life cycle and cut open a bulb to look inside.
Our class raises Mason Bees to help with early Spring pollination. In the Fall, we open our Mason Bee "paper straws" to remove and clean the cocoons. They are put in a fridge for the winter, in a special "humidity container".
To complete our exploration on Wind, the Grade 4/5 class went for a whole day field trip to explore a wind farm on a mountain side near Yongdae-Ri, South Korea.
