Once again we have a tank and are incubating our coho. Right now they are in the alevin stage: they still have their yolk sacs attached. We will watch them grow into fry and celebrate when we release them into their home river.
Grade 4-5 students made a display of some of the trash we picked up. Some of the most common items found were cups and forks, juice box straw wrappers, and food wrappers. Some weird things found were a windshield wiper, toy gun, bike handle gripper, and unidentifiable foamy things. Ew!
Students discussed fracking and Pipeline issues as part of a literacy/social studies block. Students learned some of the pros and cons of these controversial issues, and they learned the environmental effects of energy production.
Grades 5-6-7 have experimented with plants. They were learning which factors affect plant growth. This is important because they will be able to plan healthy gardens.
An instruction poster was created to teach printer/photocopier users how to re-use one-sided paper. This keeps reusable paper from the waste stream. Students are learning to ignore the back side of reused paper.
