Donita Large, learning coach in Archbishop O'Leary High School, organized the Mother Earth Essentials for all our students and staff. Mother Earth Essentials was founded by Carrie Langevin who comes from a long line of Cree Medicine women.
More than forty students of Grades 11 and 12 participated in The Story of Stuff Project with Ms. Alamo Santos. Her Religion classes are focused on raising environmental awareness and on our role as Earth Stewards.
Mr. Viardo’s Grade 11 and 12 students worked in his Science class about the causes and consequences of acid rain for people and the environment. They calculated sulphuric gas emissions. They learned the process of how it combines with nitrous oxide in the atmosphere and thus it condenses with the rain clouds and falls back as acid rain. Students learned how and why constant exposure to acid rain has serious detrimental effects on our health and our ecosystems.
Ms. Large runs the Braided Journeys program at Archbishop O’Leary High for FNMI students. One of the sessions that Ms. Large offers is her traditional teachings on the Smudge Ceremony.
Sharing the 'buzz' of our Honey Story! Bee Buddies Honey is an outcome of a student inquiry-based learning project. An environmental study of the honeybees sparked an interest in the staff and students of our school.
