There are some Nature Kid Club Members whose classes are planting flowers and vegetables in our classrooms. It brings some oxygen into the learning environments & teaches students how to care for it.
One student chose to focus on the bat during a structured mammal inquiry. He taught the class that bats "see with their ears," and we consolidated learning about echolocation and a little bit about predator/prey relationships by playing the game Bat & Moth outside.
Room 16 + 18 Kindergarten class had a class lesson learning about the importance of plants. Students learned about parts of the plant and how plants grow. Students got to see and taste different types of fruits and vegetables. They learned what plants need to grow.
Archbishop O'Leary students met with members of Development and Peace to learn about Canadian mine companies, the effects they have in communities around the world, and the pollution and destruction of the environment this activity usually causes.
To finish learning about the weather, we created our own weather station. We made our station out of arts and craft supplies including cups, wooden dowels, aluminum foil, and hammers and nails.
