Alberta GREEN Schools is an extension program offered by the SEEDS Foundation GREEN Schools and the Alberta Council for Environmental Education. Expanding upon the GREEN Schools Canada Program, Alberta GREEN Schools provides additional resources and in depth professional learning specific to Alberta schools.

Workshops

Workshops help teachers better understand environmental education and its links to curriculum, inquiry learning, and outdoor education – and showcase best practices and resources for teachers.

Annual Conference

ACEE’s annual Earth Matters environmental education conference has an Alberta Green Schools stream that supports professional learning and sharing of Green School accomplishments.  The 2015 conference will scheduled soon.

Recognition and Celebration

Alberta Green Schools helps you celebrate by providing banners and recognition to showcase your accomplishments in seven focus areas:

Activities that help the environment: Activities to create a school‑wide culture of environmental stewardship:

2. Water conservation 6. Environmental education for professional learning
3. Waste reduction 7. Transformational leadership
4. Protecting and enhancing nature  

  


Schools track their progress and recognition is provided as you achieve new levels. Banners and badges are provided to help you celebrate your achievements.

The beginning phase- share your achievements in any of the 2 focus areas

  • Bronze (over 20 projects)
  • Silver (over 40 projects)
  • Gold (over 60 projects)

The growing phase- share your achievements in any of the 4 focus areas

  • Green (over 100 projects)
  • Jade (over 250 projects)
  • Emerald (over 500 projects)

The changing phase- share your achievements in any of the 6 focus areas

  • Earth 1 (over 1000 projects)

The transforming phase- share your achievements in all of the 7 focus areas

  • Earth 2 (over 2000 projects)
  • Earth 3 (over 3000 projects)
  • Earth 4 (over 4000 projects)
  • And keep going

Together we offer many Alberta specific resources and curriculum links available under the Resources tab, along with the GREEN Schools Idea Book and Program Resource Manual.
