All GREEN Schools projects

We have a worm composter in our classroom. Students put their organic waste and cut up scholastic flyers to help take care of them.

Families were asked to bring their own dishes and utensils for our family bbq.

Students meet at lunch to clean up the courtyard garden, prepare the garden and plant seeds.

Our class went out to collect litter on the playground.

Kindergarten students are looking at the videos of the CBC green tracks music. They are creating instruments out of recycled materials and are beginning to compose their own songs with lyrics about protecting the environment.

The Kindergarten students planned and executed a school-wide campaign to raise awareness for energy conservation. They prepared posters and announcements, then visited each class to take pictures of everyone. Each class had almost 100% participation.

Our parent council purchased a class set of reusable cups for each class to use for class parties and other events.

Inspired by a Grade 4 student, ‘Shrub Club’ in Smith School has been quite successful. The 10 members of Shrub Club applied to be a member of the club, adopted their own plants and shrubs, and take care of them on a weekly basis. They water them and learned how to transplant them.  At the end of the year, they plan on donating them to local businesses and planting them in the community.
