The Green Schools Team is holding a contest to see which classroom produces the least waste in two weeks. They made trophies out of recycled items such as lunchable containers, fruit cups, pudding containers, etc to represent a gold. silver, and bronze trophy.
Throughout the month of December we put a call out to the school community to donate burnt out Christmas light bulbs and old Christmas cards. The response was overwhelming and those bulbs and cards that were once destined the garbage turned into beautiful Christmas decorations. We held an after school craft workshop where we transformed the bulbs into Christmas tree decorations by covering them in glitter and ribbon. The cards we turned into Christmas tags.
kindergarden, grade 1 and grade 2 students have turned Christmas wrapping paper into musik instruments. They have used the inside roll that was left from wrapping paper and used it to make rainstick. They used silk paper leftovers to decorate their instruments!
Grades 1A and 1B created abstract art by using recycled boxes to roll painted marbles around on and toilet paper roll stamps.
We reused Christmas cards, newspaper, styrofoam pellets, and other materials to decorate our hallways and gym for our Christmas concert.
