WebQuest Student Introduction

Have you ever wondered where the day to day things we need come from? In Alberta we go to the grocery store and there are rows and rows of ready made foods for us to buy and eat. We go to the gas station and pump our vehicles full of gasoline to go where we need to go. Our homes and schools are serviced by power companies and built for us to move into with heat and electricity. Agriculture, resource extraction and development all potentially have an impact on the water in our local watersheds. Each day the vast majority of us are able to open our taps  and have fresh, clean drinking water. How is this possible?

In this WebQuest, you will:

  • take on the role of a Hydrologist and examine your local watershed
  • examine your water source and what industries and activities impact the water as it makes its way to you
  • decide what developments have the most impact on your aquatic ecosystem
  • make a plan to address these impacts
  • present this plan
