Individual or Group Task

Imagine that you and your group are Hydrologists whose job it is to help to maintain sustainable and safe water in the watersheds of Alberta. You do this by monitoring water quality, examining potential sources of contamination, and recommending projects and activities to the government that ensure the long term health of Alberta's aquatic ecosystems.

The Alberta Government is interested in developing a campaign or plan to address the water quality in your watershed. They have hired your team of Hydrologists to research the various factors contributing to water quality in your watershed and to develop an action plan targeted at, what your team deems to be, the most impactful activity on the study site.

Your Task:

In groups of 3 to 4 or on your own, you will create a presentation that explains:

  • The data that you collected from your field study and highlights the key findings
  • The activities that are upstream of your field site
  • How these activities are potentially impacting the field site
  • ONE activity that your group considers to have the biggest impact on the ecosystem
  • An Action Campaign that addresses these impacts
  • A plan to carry out your project
  • The references used for research

Your presentation can be in the form of a powerpoint, prezi, google slides presentation, video or any other format that has been approved by your teacher. It must include an introduction and conclusion as well as a reference page.

You will find a presentation template, project proposal sheet, project planning sheet, and assessment sheets on the Resources page and the Process page will outline the steps you need to take for you to accomplish this task.
