The grade 4/5 class has been studying the weather and what causes weather to change. Wind is one aspect we have focused on to learn about the changes in weather. We spent time researching how wind is created through movement of air due to pressure. To follow up, we have studied how we measure wind, and to do so we made our own pinwheels and anemometers. We spent some time practicing counting the turns of the pinwheels while our partners used their own lung power to create wind. We used this data to figure out how fast we could blow and using our math brains to translate the data into km/h winds! We then went outside, where it was an exceptionally windy day with 25 km/ h winds, and attempted to count the revolution of our pinwheels! We struggled in the wind, not only to count the revolutions, but also to keep a hand on our pinwheels! Overall, we learnt a lot about the measurement of wind!
