Fall Leaves Candle

SIS's outdoor/nature club has wrapped up our club for this term with two art projects. In this artwork we made candle holders out of old mason jars, fallen leaves, and white glue.
Before the rain set in, we went outside for a hike and collected the fallen leaves. We then pressed the leaves between newspaper and squished them with heavy books for about one week. Our next step was to make a paste with white glue and a little bit of water to make it easier to paint on the mason jars. We painted the mason jars with the white glue and put our leaves on to the jar, then painted over them again with white glue. This seals the leaves so they do not go moldy and keeps them glossy and shiny on the jar.

After it fully dried, a day or two later, we put tea lights into the jars and enjoyed the glow in our classroom.

An easy activity that all grades can complete!
