Be The Change Project:
Six students created an online calendar to create awareness about Multicultural events around the world. This was shared on social media with the whole school population of 750 students and teachers. “We are creating a calendar for the months of April, May and June that shows all the religious and cultural events/holidays that occur during that specific month. We hope to raise awareness about the many different cultural and religious celebrations and events that happen each month. We want both students and teachers to understand the diversity of all these cultures and religions.”
Comments from students include “Although our real audience was anyone who viewed the project, for measuring purposes, we chose a grade 10 English class to use as our sample study. There were 27 students in this class. We prepared our audience for our project by telling them who we were and asking them if they had previously viewed our calendars. We measured the impact of our project by getting our sample group to complete a survey before viewing the calendar, and a survey for after viewing the calendar, and collected the data. I think that our project went very well, many of the students said that they had not previously seen our project on the school’s social media pages, but once we showed them the calendars, we got a lot of positive feedback from the post-viewing survey.” “I think it went great and around the school, I saw many people talking to their friends about a celebration they had just found out about. Also many people came to say happy Ramadan to me which was another good sign.”
