FOUNDERS & FELLOWS
Many outstanding individuals have contributed to both the SEEDS Foundation and the Connections Education Society over the years. Here we recognize those individuals and their contributions.
Peter Walton – is an accomplished Project Manager and Development Specialist with more than 30 years of experience domestically in Canada and internationally in Indonesia, Guyana, India, the Philippines and Uruguay. Peter’s professional specialization encompasses change management, strategic planning, capacity-building, economic development and participatory engagement processes. Currently, he is a Project Director at Cowater International Inc, living in Indonesia with his wife and his two daughters. He retired form teh board in 2014 after many years od involvement and dedication.
Dana Griffiths – is a retired chemistry e-teacher, based in St. John's, NL. She has also taught face-to-face, and for a short period of time, did stints as a district science coordinator and a provincial science curriculum development specialist. Dana was on the SEEDS board for about 17 years, give or take a few. She loves the ocean, and her passion is to hike the East Coast trails during the summer, and snowshoe during the winter. She retired from the board in 2015 after many years of wonderful contributions, guidance, and dedication.
Myriam DeRosa – was new to CONNECTIONS (spring of 2013). Myriam has an undergraduate degree in Theatre and English literature and a Masters degree in Political Science. She works for an immigrant serving agency: CCIS. In her work, she develops and offers programs for youth at risk and immigrant youth. She also offers counselling and interpretation to new Canadians. Though Myriam does not hold an education degree, education has been a big part of her adult life in that she homeschooled both of her children and was a co-founder of an alternative school in Toronto (based on the Sudbury Valley School model). Raising her children has been the biggest passion in her life. She also enjoys theatre (directing), literature and travel and running. She retired from the board in 2015 after 3 years of dedicated involvement.
Linda Finlay – was the Coordinator of the GREEN Schools Program from 2012 to 2015. She is a retired professional teacher and education consultant, with a Masters of Education degree and post-graduate work in curriculum development and gifted education. Linda has taught English, Language Arts, Social Studies and Humanities in Junior and Senior High Schools in Calgary, Ottawa and Winnipeg, served as department head, curriculum leader, learning resources consultant, and program developer and supervised and mentored student teachers, and served on system development committees and task forces.
