Be the Change Project: 'Disabilities Outreach'

Student organizers had a goal to improve perceptions about disabilities. They wanted to create greater awareness about disabilities and how those with disabilities are treated. Students raised money to bring Cory Johnson to speak to the younger grades (7 and 8) at Cold Lake Middle School. See their final report here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tOvuVFaRNrHjMcXw0sFbcCZvUYOrrC8wnGiknsUj5Js/edit.

From the principal: “I was very impressed with the leadership shown by the Connections students.  They went out of their way to make a change for good in the world which really affected a lot of students positively.”

From a teacher: “The message hit home for a lot of the kids, and made them more aware of how they treat others.”

From a student: “It makes me think that I shouldn’t wallow in my own problems because I didn’t consider what challenges other people have that are much bigger than my own.”
