Be the Change Project: 'Positivity Mirrors'

At Brook's annual Carnival, a connections booth was set up where students could write positive notes or traits they admired in classmates and teachers on mirrors. They could then be observed as positive messages to other students.

"I believe that we made a small difference in the atmosphere at our school. Before you can make big changes, it’s important to start small, which is exactly what we did" - Student Organizer

Be the Change Project: 'Acceptance Stickers'

Made stickers with, 'Accept' written in different languages representing the cultures of the school.

"We meant to make everyone feel accepted and connected." - Student Organizer

Be the Change Project: 'Stickers to Promote Multiculturalism'

Handed out stickers of puzzle pieces to promote multiculturalism during the school's annual 'Carnival.' Many students asked if the metaphor was that they themselves were "pieces to the puzzle." This let the student organizer know that they understood the purpose of the project.

"I only wish I had more stickers, they all went so quickly!" - Student Organizer

Be the Change Project

Focus on awareness and acceptance of diversity within  the school and community

1. a week of music awareness from 5 different cultures: Ukrainian, Philippine, Chinese, Russian, with challenge to identify the language (and get a reward)

2. letters were written by students about people who have had a positive impact on them.(250 letters were generated and posted on the bulletin board

3. sticky notes were posted all over the school e.g.  “have a wonderful day” to brighten someone’s day- displayed around the school with a select few there was a free bag of candy at School Carnival Day (sticky notes were eventually put on the CONNECTIONS banner of Carnival)

4. Candy bags at Carnival had a positive message (e.g. believe, faith, smile) and you bought 2 bags and you gave one to a friend.

Be the Change Project

We decided to do something that more simple yet very effective. Each morning from May 3 to May 6 we played a song over the intercom of a different language to which someone from each class has to run down and tell someone from the group what language it was, which earns them a prize! Our goal is for students to be open about other cultures not every is the same and you can’t do anything about instead embrace it and have fun learning something new
